Raukumara Traverse | 5 day guided (self guided options)

Opotiki to Gisborne including the Motu Trails and Rere Falls Trail. Cycle Gisborne run supported and guided tours throughout the year. If you want to go it alone, we are happy to sort that too.

Discover the Motu Trails with Cycle Gisborne — our team of locals is looking forward to sharing this special part of New Zealand with you! You can travel solo and we’ll put everything in place for you; or you can choose one of our five-day supported or guided tours.

You’ll experience cascading waterfalls, exhilarating Rere rockslide (which is amongst the AA 100 Must-Do attractions in New Zealand) and seductive scenery on this five-day guided tour.

Your ride starts on the beautiful Ohiwa Harbour, where you can opt into some Kayaking (either night or day) or a spiritual guided walk before heading off.  Cycle beachside on the Motu Trails Dunes Trail, then on the spectacular, historic back-country Motu Road Trail before joining the Rere Falls Trail Heartland Ride through to Gisborne.
Travel between 30 and 60 kilometres per day, and have a bit of energy left for a walk or add some more saddle time taking in some of the side trips available.
Enjoy a mix of local holiday park, community and farm-stay accommodation in remote locations. Magically, our “bush” caterers will turn up and provide great wholesome meals throughout your journey.

You have nothing to worry about, just pack your bike and get out to the remote East Coast. You won’t regret it.
